Graduation Party Theme
A unifying decor + food + music concept for a graduation party, anchored on the graduate's personality or the season.
A graduation party theme is the unifying concept that ties decor, food, music, and invitation tone together. The function is not Pinterest aesthetics. The function is decision-reduction. Once the theme is set, every other decision (tablecloth color, food menu, playlist, dress code) is downstream.
Common themes for US graduation parties: Classic & Elegant (school colors on white linen, gold accents), Backyard BBQ (the default, casual outdoor), Tropical Luau (summer-friendly, leis at the door), Boho Garden (pampas grass and floor cushions), Vintage Retro (yearbook photo wall, 80s playlist), Travel & Adventure (passport invites, world-map photo wall, for grads about to leave town).
Picking rule: match the theme to the graduate, not Pinterest. A quiet reader hates a luau; an athletic kid hates a boho garden. Ask the graduate one direct question, "what kind of party do you actually want," before locking the theme.
Theme effort scales sub-linearly with party size. Decor for 20 guests and decor for 60 guests is mostly the same effort, the food and drinks are what scale. So a stronger theme is more efficient at larger parties.
The interactive planner on the home page picks one of six themes and produces a decor list, food list, music suggestions, and two invitation templates tied to it.
